Treloan News
The
herd of Jerseys
continues to grow (now up to 13 head), with the arrival during last
summer, of the first calf born at Treloan Farm in many years (2
years ago) has now had her own calf (Faith II) and the addition
of calves brought in from a neighbouring farm in order to share
the excess milk. You will be able to meet the newest arrivals from
our Jersey 'ladies in waiting' throughout this year.
We
started milking in December 2003 with two extra cows and Grace,
Faith, Hope, Charity, Patience and heifer calf Faith II. Now, 2
years on we have Faith II and her new Jersey bull calf Umberto,
plus Peace and her calf Peace II and final additions of Verity and
Prudence and their calves Pancracio and Prudence II.

And
our Pigglings - Nothing bland about the two characters
who arrived from Victor's sister's farm as 'weaners' in 2003. As
gilts they will provide successive piglets for Treloan. We are now
left with Taffy the big Welsh Black Sow who we expect to will farrow
at Easter.

The
horses - Continue to give delight to us all.
Linnet – our young Shire Mare is as magnificent
as ever, but unfortunately still not in foal we
are keeping our fingers crossed for this Spring.
Renfrew We had to say Goodbye to our dear Renfrew
last Winter. He is buried in his favourite spot under a tree. Peters
field has been renamed ‘Renfrews Field'.
Clydesdale
Mares – Stella & Katie arrived from Scotland in May
2004 to supplement the working team via the ILPH (International
League of Protection of Horse's), with whom we have a special relationship.
Tragically Katie was struck by lightning whilst away as a stable
companion for Linnet at stud. So now we are back down to 2. We do
need more and the grape vine is working!!

Working
the land - As we allow for Renfrews absence, a little
more tractor work is anticipated. We are fortunate enough to have
assistance from The Cornish Heavy Horse Society and Cornish Horse
Power Society to Plough and Sow in the spring half term and Harvest
in the Summer. Victor has now worked alongside an old West Cornwall
character, Willy Halford, who travels with his threshing machine.
He brought it to Treloan for Autumn half term this year for Threshing
(Note the pictures!). We eagerly looked forward to this experience
and so it was, a ‘fabulous event'. This is now a fixed annual occasion
and we are looking forward to the addition of a steam tractor in
2006.

The
Treloan Elm Tree – This was sadly a casualty of the past
winter when it fell in one of the most vicious gales. However, every
cloud has a silver lining; Victor and Luisa are now benefiting from
a large supply of logs for their wood burning stove, and Victor
has created a carved seat from the remains (too large to deal with
away from the site where it fell) so that walkers can rest their
legs half way up Treloan Lane. The ancient swing is still usable
as in days of yore.
Whether
it be for a return visit or your first we look forward to welcoming
you to
TRELOAN ..... THE FARM WHICH TAKES OUR PAST INTO YOUR FUTURE.
