If you think
of summer when you think of Cornwall, you're missing most
of the picture. Throughout the year the seasons dance on,
each with its own mantle of colour from lush green and gold
to crisp russet and brown. Ever-changing in its outward appearance,
Cornwall is ready to welcome you any time of the year.
Spring
celebrations
Spring comes first
to Cornwall. The Gulf Stream and the county's southerly position
make their effects felt early.

January
snowdrops soon give way to primroses and daffodils, while
a gentle breeze stirs the heavy camellia blooms and the hedgerows
fill with bluebells, blackthorn, may blossom and wild violets.
As nature reawakens, Cornwall takes to the streets, welcoming
the imminent arrival of summer with dancing both sedate and
pagan - at Helston's Flora Day and Padstow's 'Obby 'Oss celebrations.
Summer
sun
Come summer, walking the coastal footpath becomes a more leisurely
affair. The beaches echo with the sound of happiness and laughing
children; sand castles are created to be washed away in the
evening by gently encroaching waves. The mornings pounding
surf brings forth the daring, while those in search of relaxation
browse through galleries and enjoy cream teas.
Autumn
hues
The languid richness of autumn offers welcome respite - a
chance to immerse yourself in the landscape which inspired
Daphne du Maurier, John Betjeman and Rosamunde Pilcher. Linger
over lunch, and dawdle slowly home to a warm welcome from
your friendly host, or a log fire and a book of ghost stories,
while the wind- spirit of Jan Tregeagle rattles the window
panes. Wake to a world washed clean by a storm that, overnight,
roared in from the west. Refreshed and energetic, fill your
day with country houses, steam trains, seals and shire horses,
or step back in time and visit a preserved tin mine or Victorian
village.
Winter
cheer
Cornish winters may rarely be white, but are always wonderful.
The crystal clear air sparkles with the reflected light that
has attracted and inspired artists over the centuries. This
is an ideal time to learn new skills on an activity holiday
- to learn to windsurf, take up golf, improve your bridge-playing
or coastal walking. Discover a land apart, yet much closer
than you think and waiting, all year round, to a warm welcome
for you.
